Album Summary
Hello World: The Motown Solo Collection is a 71-track triple disc box set commemorating Michael Jackson's early years with Motown Records. The album features Jackson's four solo LPs from Motown (dating from 1971 to 1975), plus other songs that were recorded during his time with Motown.
The songs Don't Let It Get You Down, You've Really Got A Hold On Me, Melodie, Touch The One You Love, Girl You're So Together, Farewell My Summer Love, Call On Me, Here I Am (Come And Take Me), and To Make My Father Proud was recorded in 1973, but archived without release. With the popularity of Michael Jackson in the early 1980s, Motown reworked the songs to give them a more contemporary sound and released these new mixes on Farewell My Summer Love in 1984. The original versions of these songs had not been publicly available until their inclusion on Hello World: The Motown Solo Collection, with the exception of Don't Let It Get You Down, Melodie, Call On Me, and Farewell My Summer Love which was released on the 1995 reissue of Anthology.
Additionally, Twenty-Five Miles, which was also recorded in the early 1970s, shelved, and given the same modern-sound treatment for its release on the 1987 compilation album, The Original Soul Of Michael Jackson, its original recording was also not previously available until Hello World: The Motown Solo Collection.
On June 12, 2009, Universal Music Group reissue label Hip-O Select announced on its Twitter page that the 3-CD set was available for pre-ordering, with an announced shipping date of July 3, the same date the set would be released to retail stores.
Note: There is conflicting data on which date this album was released. Some sources say July 3rd, while other sources indicate a July 21st or September 1st release date.
